John J. Hill Design

John J. Hill is a Portland, OR based freelance creative director working in comics, technology, publishing and entertainment. An alumnus of the University of Michigan, he founded award winning NYC design firm 52mm and has been the creative lead for Eruptor Entertainment, Big Stage Entertainment and Crayon Pixel.

He is best known for working in the comics industry on logos, branding, trade paperback design and lettering for Harley Quinn (with Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner), Batman, Superman, Robin, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Swamp Thing, StarCraft, Overwatch, Nailbiter (with Joshua Williamson, Mike Henderson and Adam Guzowski), SuperZero, Painkiller Jane and God Country (with Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw) to name just a few. In addition to freelancing, John is the creative director / co-founder of Printed in Blood; a boutique publishing company creating coffee table "Artbooks" based on licensed entertainment properties. Featuring hundreds of multidisciplinary artists, Artbook volumes currently available focus on John Carpenter's The Thing, Ghostbusters and Stranger Things. In the works are books on Firefly and several others yet to be announced (with a number more coming down the pipeline).

He has led, developed and designed campaigns, branding, packaging, coffee table books and other creative for Adobe, Aeropostale, AfterShock, AMC, Atlantic Records, Blizzard Entertainment, DC Comics, Disney, The Hollywood Theatre, Insight Editions, GM, Image Comics, Legendary, NHL, Paperfilms Random House, Titan and many others. His work has been shown at the Art Directors Club, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Ward-Nasse Gallery and the Low Res Film Festival.
